Meet the Breeder
Meet Michelle and learn how family, farm roots, science, and life with Zaya, Rose, Makara, and Rinchen shaped the heart of Magnolia Heritage Tibetan Mastiffs.

A welcome from Michelle
Hello, and welcome to Magnolia Heritage Tibetan Mastiffs!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and the incredible Tibetan Mastiffs, or TMs, who share our lives.
I would like to invite you to read my blog if you would like to learn more about our journey, and to follow our Pack Princess, Zaya, on Instagram.
My name is Michelle, and I live with my husband Brad, our son Faris, and our four brilliant Tibetan Mastiffs, Zaya, Rose, Makara, and Rinchen, in northeast Oklahoma.
I have enjoyed many dog breeds in my life, but nothing compares to life with a Tibetan Mastiff. You will not hear me call the TMs pets because I cannot. It would be insulting to them. They are so much more, and they are so different from pets. A TM will shape your life at least as much as you shape theirs, and probably more.
Ancient guardians, raised with purpose. At Magnolia Heritage Tibetan Mastiffs, we are committed to preserving the heritage of this primitive breed. We do not incorporate Chinese variety into our breeding program, ensuring that the origin, type, and temperament of our Tibetan Mastiff puppies remain true.
Head over to the Breed Information page and read about the American Kennel Club's (AKC) breed standard.
The puppies we raise and train have even temperaments, and they are instinctive guardians without being naturally aggressive. Our puppies learn quickly, are highly socialized, and bond strongly to their families, while also being gentle and welcoming to their friends.
We have carefully selected the TMs who share our lives in order to maintain their ancient purpose and help promote genetic diversity in the United States. Rose, Rinchen, and Makara were introduced to our program because they bring in lines directly imported from highly respected breeders in Europe and Australia. Zaya represents the historically true type and level temperament that Noble Legacy Tibetan Mastiffs is known for.
My background growing up on a farm in rural Missouri led me to earn my BS in Biology and a minor in Animal Science, which some universities call Animal Husbandry, with a focus on reproduction and genetics. Several years ago, when my husband Brad and I realized our son Faris was approaching high school graduation, I realized I was going to need an outlet for all the energy I had put into our son. Without his extracurricular activities and helping with schoolwork, I would soon be at loose ends. After a lot of dreaming, planning, studying, and attending dog shows with Zaya, Magnolia Heritage Tibetan Mastiffs was born.
I am so blessed to learn at the knee of Debbie Mayer at Noble Legacy Tibetan Mastiffs and to be chosen by Lynne Sullivan at Bryn Coron Tibetan Mastiffs. Debbie continues to mentor and guide me, with 30+ years of TM experience. Lynne imported Dindee from Australia specifically to help our United States TM population have access to a more diverse gene pool. Dindee's parents were the #1 and #2 TMs in Australia when she was born. The litter Dindee created with George has been referred to by experts in the breed as "the litter of the century." My friendship with Lynne and Debbie secured the top pick boy and girl from that litter, which garnered international interest. Click this link to see photos of those puppies, Rinchen and Makara.
You have probably heard someone refer to an unexpected blessing as "pennies from heaven," right? In our household, '80s rock is still cool, and "Majestic's Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was our unexpected blessing when she came to us at 6 months of age. Rose is also out of an imported Tibetan Mastiff, Perun Radocynka. Rose has the spirit of an angel in her magnificent TM body. She might be the sweetest dog of any breed that I've ever met. She lives for affection, both giving and getting! Rose is a truly gentle soul.
We call Noble Legacy's My Friend Zaya our Princess because she is! Zaya is my friend, my heart, my constant companion, and if there's any ownership involved, I'm pretty sure she's the one doing the owning. Zaya is brilliant and accomplished - I'd rather say she has an impressive vocabulary instead of telling you she's well-trained, for fear of insulting her! In addition to her Grand Champion and Champion titles in the show ring, Zaya is also a certified therapy dog and my personal service dog. These are not claims you hear when people talk about Tibetan Mastiffs. So yes, Zaya, our oldest TM, is special. But there are reasons for that...
In Tibetan culture, the magnolia symbolizes purity, sincerity, nobility, and spiritual awakening. The magnolia grows wild in Tibet and across the Himalayan foothills, and is native to these areas. Magnolia Heritage Tibetan Mastiffs dogs and bitches are also pure, untainted by the influence of other breeds, and come from immediate Noble Legacy lines. This heritage and its preservation are important to me, and they will be important to anyone interested in sharing their life with a Tibetan Mastiff.
Our dogs are special, and we want to share this incredible experience with others. This is the purpose of Magnolia Heritage Tibetan Mastiffs: preservation of the true Tibetan Mastiff and promoting well-socialized, intelligent, trainable companions capable of guarding your home and capturing your heart.
XOXO — Michelle & Zaya, July 2026
